An Introduction To Chaminuka Healing Site

The Svikiro/ Traditional Healer way of life.

As a Svikiro/ Traditional Healer from Zimbabwe, here in the Uk and on this Chaminuka Healing Site, I will

dive a little into my healing story, a bit of my perspectives on my spiritual knowledge as a shona healer,

and a bit about why I called this site Chaminuka Healing Site. Initially, I have been studying and employing herbal remedies and medicinal plants since the early 1990s, and I have developed, along the way, a unique approach to combine botanical resources and plants to treat a great variety of common and rare physical ailments and illnesses. It is a combination of traditional and modern botanical knowledge, which I can now provide to people who share the same passion and interest as I do for natural homoeopathic medicine. My deepest hope is that this knowledge can help future generations to reconnect themselves to the life force of our wonderful planet Earth. The more we research, learn and respect the earth’s secrets, the more we shall be able to rebuild a new world, uniting past and present medicinal practices. I hope you will join me on this journey to a prosperous and healthy future where we can all enjoy longevity, prosperity and well-being as one.

However, my work is based on my life experience and a devotion to culture. It therefore is a tribute to all of the wise healers that have been part of my journey, and a tribute to all of the knowledge they have shared. I am also an avid researcher and spend a great deal of time studying what is available regarding African culture. As a spiritual healer, I also trust my spirit and the knowledge that comes from the spiritual world through dreams and visions. So my position is informed by these aspects.

All cultures have spiritual practices and Africa is rich with examples. I find it important to discuss the roots of African culture. There is a complex and impressive history which has been largely disregarded by Western attention and missed by Africans themselves because of the dominance of Western influence and the major religions, Christianity and Islam. In Zimbabwe, Christianity has a very recent presence, whereas our culture has been under consistent development and part of the tapestry of Africa for millennia. We do not speak against other religions and their followers, we only say that they should be considered and analysed truthfully. We will go into more depth about the origins and beliefs of Christianity and how they actually connect back to African history. In summary though, if we want to nourish our spiritual life as an African, it is important to honour the fact that we have a rich cultural background and take pride in the wisdom and knowledge that our history contains.

Chaminuka.

We called this 'Chaminuka Healing Site' because Chaminuka was a leader of Shona culture and a powerful healer and prophet. The most recent incarnation of Chaminuka, Tsuro, Pasipamire, from the Rwizi family, was a healer to thousands in Chitungwiza, he led ceremonies for rain and was also a musician, moving with large groups of Mbira players. He was friendly with animals and could attract wild animals to gather around him. He rejected war and bloodshed. He foresaw the coming of colonisation and the passage of Zimbabwe's recent history. The name Chaminuka has passed to different mediums over time, the first from the kingdom of Mwenemutapa, with the most recent being Tsuro, from Chitungwiza, who was killed at the Shangani River by the Zulu in 1878.

The presence of Chaminuka brought prosperity to the kingdoms of his time so it is right to honour this spirit as a figurehead of Zimbabwean spiritual culture. Zimbabweans should be including the name of Chaminuka in their prayers and his importance should be well acknowledged in Zimbabwe.

Chaminuka is also important to us personally because he placed a high value on music, and alongside healing and culture we practice and promote Zimbabwean Mbira and music. I do encounter many good hearted people who are dedicated to their spiritual life but don't necessarily include Mbira music within their experience. Chaminuka is our example, so we encourage people to enjoy, uplift and use spiritual Mbira music, in their lives.

Our aim is to make Zimbabwean culture stand proud and to fulfil the values of our heritage. The name Chaminuka exemplifies everything that we want to uplift and promote, so with humility, we promote our efforts under the name Chaminuka.
